Hundrede Ark by Iben West
Hundrede Ark by Iben West
Hundrede Ark is exemplary of the idea of the artist book. A rich content and a conceptual object.
This publication celebrates the 20th anniversary of the experimental art magazine ARK and the editors have decided to create this archive incorporating one sheet for every one of the 100 issues that have been published over the course of the life of the magazine. So the outcome is a rich and rather fragmented content, a registrant of the changes that marked these 20 years and a tribute to the diversity and evolution of the publication itself.
The original material from these 100 issues creates a consistent and dense book object, glued and bound in canvas.
The book block is completely closed and in order for one to discover the, otherwise secret, archive, one is forced to break the bind and destroy the form.
Or preserve the form and never gain access to its content.
300 handmade, unique objects were created through the collaboration of the artist Iben West with the bookbinder Lars Hedegaard. The combination of the rare material and the craft incorporated in the creation of this item, makes it a real collector object.
