Atlas of Anatomy by Nanna Debois Buhl
Atlas of Anatomy by Nanna Debois Buhl
Atlas of Anatomy is the artist’s book published in connection with the art installation the artist was commissioned in 2013 for UCSJ, Campus Roskilde, an educational institution in Denmark that houses nursing, teaching, physiotherapy, social education, and social work programs.
The printed object becomes quite literally an Atlas of the human body, where the different body parts, belonging to people from different age groups, are presented in a cartographic manner, with an emphasis to the living landscapes they embody and the magnificent diversity of the body itself. The 133 footnotes, scattered around the photographs contribute to the mapping of these bodily landscapes by incorporating text fragments from different sources, scientific or poetic, academic or popular. They compose an index of fragmented entries that seen collectively - similar to the 15 photographs they ”describe” - inspire a feeling of belonging.
The book is designed by Anni’s.
