100 ATTEMPTS AT A BOOK

An interactive installation of 100 booklets

Solo Show

by Lukas Quist Lund

Curated by Kristine Sandal Hansen & Mads Lerch Laursen

February 17, 2022 - February 23, 2022

Throughout the year 2021, Lukas Quist Lund (b. 1997) gathered various elements of interest which initiated the search for different concepts for a book.

Rather than writing down an idea for later use, Lukas consistently made a spontaneous first draft and printed it right away. As containers for thoughts and possibilities, the booklets slowly piled up, awaiting a purpose. These are 100 Attempts at a Book.

The installation provides insight to the ongoing process of experimentation and invites the visitor to contribute. Rather than fixed and finished, these booklets are all ongoing attempts of creation. They are the first draft of something with all the mistakes and possibilities an uncensured attempt consists of.

While the booklets are similar in the outer presentation (A4 paper printed on a regular office printer, folded and sewn by hand), the content varies, but is often conjugated with aspects of daily life. The booklets are installed as a massive cloud of thoughts; they hang from a web of fishing line as small fluid and floating beings eager to touch the guests in the tightly packed exhibition room.

The installation hopes to allow for the booklets to be touched and entangled with the experiences and ideas of the guests and thereby move away from Lukas as the sole creator. The installation encourages everyone to interact with the booklets by writing down your comments/ideas/criticisms/feelings etc. on a post-it-note and place the notes inside of a book.

By doing so, the booklets are expanded and improved.

Post-it-notes and pens are available at the entrance.
