Marie Raffn’s exhibition Backward Sway | Upper Beam | Forward Swivel | Lower Bound was shown at Theatre Academy Helsinki in the early spring and has now been re-composed as a textual choreographed language. Two dancers read and interpreted Raffn’s exhibition during its opening days, and their movements and interactions within the installation have in turn settled in signage of seemingly dissolved systems.

Raffn has duplicated signs into ambiguous figures and/or performance notes and through that joined many levels of meaning at their now visibly, open-ended seams. It is a publication of semantic delight where any level of discourse have been prevented from claiming authority and presents us with meaning that moves across the page as the eyes take the lead.
